| » Offcial Road Rules Of Sri Lanka : | ||
Issued by the Department of Roads, Pavements, and Drains, Sri Lanka.
Adherence to lane markers:
If you`ve got four wheels, make sure at least two wheels stay in your lane at all times.
If you`ve got three wheels, make sure your middle wheel stays on the lane marker. This enables easy changing of lanes.
If you`ve got only two wheels, the space taken by the lane marker is yours.
Road Usage:
If you drive a private bus, you may consider the road private too.
Three wheeler passengers should keep looking at the baby picture posted inside.
This will provide you with a sense of security. Looking out at on coming traffic can cause you to cry for mommy.
When overtaking by going over to the lane of on-coming traffic, you may safely assume that the person coming at you head-on, is a responsible individual with whom you can trust your life.
You may make U-turns anywhere anytime if the turning radius of your vehicle allows it.
Keep one eye on the road and the other on the pavement at each moment. You may end up in either place the next moment.
Warning other drivers of your intentions is optional.
Right of way:
Right of way is decided by the size, make, and model of what you drive (not necessarily in that order).
Driving style:
Hill country roads:
If you drive a bus or van full of passengers, take bends so that your passengers get the maximum view down the side of the mountain.
City roads:
Drive like a maniac. You can always relax after reaching your destination (such as work place).
Coastal roads:
Drive to maximize the sea breeze on your passengers and minimize salt exposure for your vehicle.
Always assume that dogs, pedestrians and other animals will move away — eventually.
Obey traffic lights in the following ways:
Red: Stop, Look around for a cop, Go
Amber: This is to check your reflexes. If they are good, you won`t see this.
Green: This light came in the box with the other two. Perhaps used in the country from where we imported it.
Traffic Police:
Obey the policeman as he could be a former thug with a lucrative practice after hours.
Do not run away from him even when he`s on foot. A chase is only a three wheeler away.
If you hear the phrase `Malli, I am a low enforcement officer`, they really mean it.
Drive with confidence in the belief that you`ll never be a statistic — `Cos we don`t keep them!
